Dear Shamanic Community of Austin,
Join us in December as we take the opportunity to explore our opportunities to wind down and go within.
The Winter Solstice is coming up and the world is winding down. That’s a good thing. Nature has a lot to teach about spending some time going inside, calming down, and reflecting. At least in the Northern Hemisphere, winter is cold, dark, and hard. For our ancestors, it was a time when they stayed home around the fire with their families. The hard work of sowing and harvesting was done and now it was time to care for themselves and those they loved. They literally couldn’t do more with the crops, animals, or crafts they worked with during the rest of the year.
Of course, time and technology has moved on so we can now work full steam 24/7 all through the year. We can separate ourselves from those we love and focus on work. We can strain and rush and avoid reflection without a break. But when Winter Solstice comes, it reminds us we have a choice. We can take time to gather together and reflect like our ancestors did. We can spend time around the fire (or kitchen table) exploring our relationship with those we love. We can ‘abide’ with others – an old word meaning to be with others, without trying to change them, correct them, or analyze them. — Shamanic Community of Austin Leadership Team

The Leadership Council is working towards providing educational online videos for both new and continuing members to learn about our core values and mission. We are also looking to present our leadership team to the community through online videos to express each unique practice, expertise, and shamanic view.
