As we approach the end of the annual cycle and move into the transitional doorway to the next, it is important to remember that, in some ways, we are called to be at odds with our inner nature. December holds a container for an unusually large number of festivities. As a result, you might find yourself pulled in many social directions. Sometimes that push and pull can be exhausting

Resting Into The Season

As temperatures fall in the northern hemisphere, the urge of Nature is to rest, to go within, to hibernate—to gestate new dreams. This season is a time of reflection. Which of the projects of 2023 is it time to draw to a close? What have you learned? Who have you become?

You have to slow down in order to do this kind of introspection.

You must give yourself the gift of time.

Allow yourself to flow with the season, at least for a while, to take time to let go of the rush and rest. Let your body follow its natural tendency to slow down. Just for a while.

December is named for the middle goddess of the Roman Three Fates. Her name is Decima, she who personifies the present. Vesta, patroness of fire and archetypal symbol of the eternal present, was also said to rule this month.

If you can, build a fire and let yourself bask in its warmth. Let the fire remind you of your ancient ancestors who, so long ago, huddled together in the chilling darkness. Journey to your inner hearth. Rest into the weight of blanket, cloak, and fur as you gaze into your own bright fire within.

Who You Will Become

As you rest into the season, away from the bustle of seasonal festivities, you will find it easier to feel your way into who you choose to become in the next cycle of seasons. What are you being urged to begin or shift or expand into? This is also a season of deep gestation.

Let your intuition and inner guidance provide new ideas and insights. Avoid “thinking” your way into next year. Let your Heart, your inner knowing and BEing, lead the way. There is no need to DO anything right now. There will be plenty of time and energy for that. Instead, make time to rest and connect with your newest Self.

All the best for the holidays. Be well!
