Here are some insights from Bill, the Storyteller

After acknowledging East, we turn South and reconnect to our constant companion. The Spirit of South travels with us as we move through our days, weeks, and years. It’s like an old warrior, wise in the ways of the world, urging us not to give up. It speaks to us of courage, steadfastness, and sacrifice for a greater good. Its message can be a hard one – ‘Go through, not around. Stand tall. Don’t give up.’  It pushes us toward doing the work, finding practical solutions, and engaging the World in important ways. But it also travels with us, standing beside us, not giving up on us.

The Spirit of South teaches us how to trust ourselves in difficult times. We see South’s presence in hero stories, shining through at the moment when the hero wants to give up,  but then finds new strength and enough courage to go on. South speaks against the messages around us that say we don’t need to struggle, we can find a way around hard things, or push others to the front of the battle. It helps us see how trading our sacred values to make things easier only makes our lives meaningless. Spirit of South gives us the gift of learning to trust our courage and endurance, and that trust calms our fears, helps us find significance, and gives us confidence for the next battle.

Here are some suggestions on ways to incorporate connection to South into your life’s journey.

– Call on the Spirit of South as you approach hard times
– Listen to South when you’re tempted to avoid the battle
– Find stories of heroes who have listened to the Spirit of South
– Proudly tell stories of your own struggles and triumphs to honor South

The Shamanic Journey
Meditative journey work (also known as Shamanic journey work) can be a valuable tool for offering viable and meaningful help. This practice provides a pathway to connect with spiritual helpers and access wisdom beyond the physical world. Through these journeys, we can receive guidance, healing, and clarity to hold space for others during times of crisis. This practice empowers us to embody the compassionate witness, offering support and nurturing connection on both seen and unseen levels.
