Here are some insights from Bill, the Storyteller
The Spring Equinox is one of two balance points in the cycle of the year. They are the moments when darkness and light, past and future, order and chaos are equally present and relevant in our lives. Since neither side of the equation is more powerful in that moment, it can seem like nothing is decided, there is no progress, and the Cycle is stuck. But the equinoxes are also reminders that the Cycle isn’t stuck and we live in a dynamic world. That means nothing is decided absolutely for all time. Instead of certainty, we’re called to live on the balance point.
Balance points are tricky (as in leaning toward the Trickster) and uncertain. They are hard on the nerves and too easy to avoid thinking about. But they are points of immense power to change what happens next. At these balance points, a little push, a nudge, or a kick might send the future onto a new path. The Trickster knows this and shares the secret in stories, jokes, and absurdities all around us. If we listen, we can hear Trickster laughing and asking which way to push that finely balanced moment. Do we have the nerve to give the world a nudge? Are we practiced enough to call on our Guides and Spirits to lend a hand?
Unitarian abolitionist minister Theodore Parker said back in 1858 – “I do not pretend to understand the moral universe, the arc is a long one, my eye reaches but little ways. I cannot calculate the curve and complete the figure by the experience of sight; I can divine it by conscience. But from what I see I am sure it bends towards justice.”*
On the Spring Equinox, the Trickster winks at us and says: “Get ready! That arc isn’t going to bend itself, you know!”

Meditative journey work (also known as Shamanic journey work) can be a tool with which one can offer viable and meaningful help. This practice provides a pathway to connect with spiritual helpers and access wisdom beyond the physical world. Through these journeys, we can receive guidance, healing, and clarity to hold space for others during times of crisis. This practice empowers us to embody the compassionate witness, offering support and nurturing connection on both seen and unseen levels.
May your March be filled with an openness to receive wisdom, patience, and new perspective from the world around you. Know that the Shamanic Community of Austin is here as a lighthouse to guide you as you sail on stormy seas.
