The May Labyrinth
May is a time where we cannot avoid that we walk a path of learning and wisdom. We can glance behind and see the place where we took our first step and planted our seeds for the journey to come. We can also look ahead into the distance and see a well-traveled path under a hot sun, where we know safety and knowledge is waiting to provide us company. Entering into this fifth month of the year is when we enter the first turn in the Labyrinth.
The Labyrinth teaches us many important lessons during this time of year. As we walk we find wisdom in the textures under our bare feet and we hear important words within the whisper of gentle forest breezes. As we walk we are accompanies by the subtle and not-so-subtle mantras of the crickets and birds. And then there are the trees standing tall and the stones sitting solid, as they show us the immense wisdom from the pure act of witnessing those who are walking.
You are invited during the month of May to walk or build or care-for or carry your own Labyrinth. Listen for the lessons. Feel the inner movements. Dance with the birds and bugs. See the nature within the journey. Cry and laugh and share with your friends and family and community, as well as the entity that is the Labyrinth, herself.
You are also invited to join us the weekend of May 19th for our community campout and journey circle at a Muleshoe Park west of Austin. There we will be walking and caring for our community-built Chief’s Labyrinth. The image shown here is of Chief’s Labyrinth during one of our past caretaker’s gatherings.

The Road Ahead
In April 2020, in response to the feelings of isolation and anxiety that many of us were experiencing due to the pandemic, Gerry and Stephanie began offering online “Sunset Chat and Check-in” meetings on Friday evenings. This was a chance for folks to touch base with others, and to maybe feel a little less disconnected and more supported by the shamanic community.
In time, this Meetup became a topical discussion group, as well as an opportunity to reconnect with a growing online community of friends. Attendees helped to determine topics of discussion, and there were some very lively and informative discussions. After a while, attendees requested the addition of a journey; and the current format of our Friday meeting was born.
As you can see, this Friday circle has had an ever-evolving history. And now, more than 3 years since it began, it is time for the next stage of this evolution.
On May 5th, we will be saying “Farewell” to our Friday circles at our regular meeting time, 8:00 pm central. This will be an opportunity to celebrate and express our gratitude for the blessings of this meeting over the last three years.
We are saying Good-bye to this weekly event, not to end its support and blessing. Rather we are shifting that energy to the ongoing Monday circles, as well as to open more time and resources to the creation and development of online workshops and other ways of delving deeper and meeting more of the needs of our online community.
You are all invited to this celebration of gratitude and letting go.
You are also invited to let us know what other options and opportunities you would like to see as we go forward.
